Nora L. Left Hand Bull, 52

Nora Lynn Left Hand Bull Emery (Anpetu Waste Win), 52, of Martin, SD peacefully passed away on February 14, 2021.

Born to her parents Victor Left Hand Bull and Theresa Dale Big Crow Farmer, she was the eldest of seven. Nora attended St. Francis Indian School from elementary through high school, graduating as Salutatorian in 1987. She excelled at sports including cross country, track, basketball, and volleyball. She was a staple for the State B Champion volleyball team in 1986. Throughout her high school summers, she would attend the Upward Bound program at USD and made lifelong friends there. Later, Nora joined the United States Navy and had the opportunity to travel the world while serving her country. After her service, she continued to serve the public in many different capacities such as SODAK Gaming, RST Casino hotel manager, and at the South Dakota Capitol as a Department of Revenue agent. Nora Lynn was a beautiful and gregarious soul who quickly became a friend to everyone she encountered. She was well known for being one of a kind, having a wonderful sense of humor and a bright smile. She loved her Dallas Cowboys, live country music, recreational volleyball, and was an excellent cook.

Blessed to call her Mother are her children Shawna Caitlyn Cuny, Shalane “Lainie” Lafawn Cuny, Cody Loren Campbell, and Connor Aaron Campbell. Her greatest blessings and joys of her life were her grandchildren Isyss “Sis” Beth Cuny and Kyran Shawn Maiden. She met her love and soul mate Steve Robert Emery and enjoyed many adventures by his side.

Nora was preceded in death by her grandparents, Annie Featherman, Lloyd Big Crow Sr., Rose Iron Shell, and Alfred Left Hand Bull, parents, Victor and Theresa; stepfather James Farmer Sr., infant brother, Keith Loren Left Hand Bull, daughter, Laini and nephews, Anfernee James High Pipe and Jason Corey Poorman Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Steve, her children, Shawna, Cody, and Connor, her grandchildren, “Sis” and Kyran, siblings, Mike Left Hand Bull Sr., Leon Farmer, Dale Farmer, Leann Farmer, and Rayma (Farmer) Brushbreaker and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Pallbearers for Nora were Dakota Denoyer, Mike “Sonny Dude” Left Hand Bull Jr., Taylor Brushbreaker, Larry “Oz” Osborne, Jason Maiden, Verlyn Walking Eagle, Robert Sedlmajer, and David Reiss. Honorary pallbearers include her many friends, extended family, and fellow Sicangu military veterans.

Graveside services with military honors were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2021 at the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Veterans Cemetery. Holmes Funeral Home of Valentine was entrusted with the arrangements.
