GHS Cheer and Dance happy to have a season and make it to state

The GHS Cheer and Dance teams made a slick and snowy trip to Rapid City for the 2020 State A Cheer and Dance Competition on Friday, October 23rd. This year the event was held in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center rather than a high school. This change was one of many that the pandemic brought on this sport this season. Cheer and dance was in the “high risk” category this past summer along with band/chorus, football, and wrestling. Making it questionable as to whether or not we spend the money on choreography or not. The team went through the summer following the sport recommendations passed down from the SDHSAA. This made it hard to practice, so we put workouts on our team band app and held each other accountable to learn and attend small group skill building at Jenny’s studio. We did our very best all season to distance the best we could and formed stunt groups that stayed the same all season. Masks have been recommended at many events and competitions, but was a requirement at state unless the team was on the floor competing. Cleaning, sanitizing, and eating healthy were among many other things Lenna Braun and Jenny Hansen made sure the team was doing throughout the season.
