Ainsworth American Legion Prepares for Convention to be Held in Ainsworth

On Tuesday evening, March 22, 2022, a spaghetti dinner was held at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion #79 post home in celebration of the American Legion’s 103rd birthday. Area veterans and their families were the honored guests. The winners of the Americanism essay contest read their essays and cake and ice cream were enjoyed by all.

Beef Ambassador Contest Announced

NCW - Consumer Promotion and Education Committee with the Nebraska Cattlemen would like to announce the 2022 Nebraska Beef Ambassador Contest and Beef Advocacy Training will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Mid-Plains Community College in Valentine beginning at 1:00 pm. The competition is targeted towards youth who are passionate about the beef industry.

Burn Ban in Effect at Calamus SRA Until Further Notice

Because of the fire hazard created by dry and windy conditions, a burn ban is in effect at Calamus State Recreation Area until further notice. This ban includes all open fires, such as campfires, and those in any place throughout the SRA.

Taco or Chef Salad Available Thursday, April 14th: Roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn, applesauce, bread and milk. Friday, April 15th: Philly steak sandwich, scalloped potatoes, broccoli, mandarin oranges, bun and milk.

Question: When should I clean my perennial flower bed? Perennial beds should be cleaned out in early spring when plants are starting to emerge so that you can see where they are planted. Never walk in a garden or flower bed if the soil is wet, it can cause compaction.
