Sandhills Discovery Board Discuss 2022 Sandhills Discovery

The Sandhills Discovery Board met Thursday, September 30th at the Ainsworth Public Library at 4:00 p.m. President Betty Nelson called the meeting to order. Treasurer Linda Alberts presented two bills and they were approved for payment. The appointments of a secretary and a new board member were tabled until the next meeting.

Smith Boys Qualify for National Pedal Pull Competition

Charlie Smith, age 8, (left) and William Smith, age 6, (right) participated in the Nebraska State Pedal Pull competition during the Nebraska State Fair. Charlie placed 4th and William placed 2nd, qualifying them for the National Pedal Pull Competition in Mitchell, SD.

Mob County Boys Win Trap Shooting League

The final night of Trap League at the Sandhills Rod & Gun Club, held on Wednesday, October 6th, found the Mob County Boys team taking first place by three rocks with a team score of 838. The First Class Auto team took second place with 835 after a shoot off with Doug’s Mobil, who ended with a team score of 828.

Students Given Rides on Fire Trucks in Observance of Fire Prevention Week

Ainsworth Elementary students were given rides on fire trucks by the Ainsworth Volunteer Fire Department in observance of Fire Prevention Week. Ainsworth firemen met with Ainsworth Elementary students on Friday, October 8th to explain fire safety and then gave students a ride on top of two of their fire trucks..

Lorinda Rice to Receive the Mayor’s Arts Gladys Lux Art Award

Lorinda Rice, Lincoln Public Schools K-12 Visual Art Curriculum Specialist, has won the Mayor’s Arts Gladys Lux Art Award for recognition of special initiatives or dedication to arts education. This award is an acknowledgement of Rice’s work in advancing Art-based Inquiry and Integration Art Education, collaborating with local contemporary artists to visit the schools and advocating for arts opportunities for all students.
