Erthum Received NASB Achievement Award

The Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB), Board of Directors and staff, recognized Scott Erthum, Ainsworth, with a 2024 Achievement Level VII award. The award was presented to Scott Erthum (left) by Ainsworth School Board Vice-President Brad Wilkins (right). Through the Awards of Achievement program, board members earn points for participation in workshops and events, as well as their district’s participation in NASB programs and services. There are ten total levels of the program, with points carrying over year to year. Erthum was recognized for his outstanding excellence for achieving the Level 7. NASB is a private, nonprofit organization that serves the needs of board members in Nebraska public school districts and Educational Service Units.

Nebraska Resident Veterans May Get a Free Veterans Day Hunt Permit

Nebraska residents who are honorably discharged veterans may receive a one-day permit, Habitat Stamp, and Nebraska Migratory Waterfowl Stamp for free to hunt on Veterans Day. They would be required to buy a Federal Duck Stamp if they intend to hunt waterfowl.

The saying goes, “newer isn’t always better,” and while I typically tend to agree with that, newer might be better when it comes to glucose monitoring technology. In recent years we have seen rapid development and uptake of new types of glucometers, leaving fewer and fewer patients with diabetes using the old standby fingerstick method of blood sugar monitoring.

Rural Mainstreet Economy Falls to Four-Year Low

For a 14th straight month, the overall Rural Mainstreet Index (RMI) sank below growth neutral, according to the October survey of bank CEOs in rural areas of a 10-state region dependent on agriculture and/or energy.

Legislative Notes

Our 2024 general election is only a few short days away. Nebraska ballots during this election contain choices between a number of federal and state candidates. These electoral contests include the races for president, both of Nebraska’s federal senators, all three congressional representatives, dozens of state legislative races, the State Board of Education, and Public Service Commission. We also have a number of local races like natural resource districts, community college boards, and county board seats, as well as retention votes on local judges.
