With Memorial Day weekend and summer coming up, campers should think ahead to find their perfect site. While many popular reservation- only spots already have been booked, many more sites are available first-come, first-served at state parks across Nebraska.

Conner Kozisek was conferred his Juris Doctor degree from the New York University School of Law at exercises in Madison Square Garden on May 18th. Kozisek will be moving to Chicago to start a two-year fellowship at the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights focusing on voting rights issues.

LINCOLN, NE – May 24th, Governor Jim Pillen announced he has authorized the deployment of 10 state troopers to the Texas border effective immediately. The deployment comes in response to a request for assistance from the state of Texas, and follows Governor Pillen’s promise to back Texas and Governor Greg Abbott in their fight to protect the southern border from illegal immigrants and dangerous drugs entering the country. Texas has accepted Nebraska’s Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) offer for support from the Nebraska State Patrol.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Rock County Sheriff’s Department and Nebraska State Patrol, arrested Ainsworth City Councilman Shawn Fernau Friday morning, May 26, 2023 on 10 felony counts. Along with the arrest, law enforcement searched Fernau’s residence and business.

Judy Walters, District and Post 79 Commander welcomed everyone to the Memorial Day Program at the Ainsworth Cemetery on May 29th. American Legion Post 79 and Sons of the American Legion posted the colors and provided the Salute to the Honored Dead.

Beginning in 2003, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) embarked on the Last Soldier Project. The purpose of the project is to locate and appropriately mark the final resting place of the last Civil War Soldier buried in each county/parish and in each state of this great country.
