Access to certain areas of parks in north-central Nebraska and the Panhandle will be temporarily closed to make way for improvements. That question has been asked a lot this year and the answer is the same as it is to most of our gardening problems this year, extreme heat. When the air temperature reaches approximately 94 degrees most plants shut down. They don’t die and don’t actually go dormant, they just stop. The reason this isn’t dormancy is that this circumstance comes and goes with the temperature change. For example, a plant will shut down on an extremely hot day and begin transpiring again when the air temperature drops.

Word has been received of the death of Donna L. Keim, age 90 of Ainsworth, NE. Donna Keim passed away Friday, August 19, 2022 at the Brown County Hospital in Ainsworth. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
