The Committee for the Brown County Hospital Community Garden has been working on their community garden for the fourth year. The hospital is excited to provide “healthy food choices, exercise and a sense of community pride to everyone who enjoys the garden.”

Irrigating Alfalfa In-Season

Although alfalfa is relatively drought-tolerant, irrigation makes it possible to produce higher yields. This perennial forage does not have specific critical growth stages when less sensitive to water stress. When moisture stressed, the plant will slow or stop growing and go dormant. Then, when water becomes available, growth resumes.

Busy Weekend Wraps-Up Click It or Ticket Campaign

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have concluded the annual Click It or Ticket campaign with a busy weekend across the state. During the two-week initiative, troopers removed from the road 40 impaired drivers and cited 47 people for seat belt or child safety restraint violations.

Solstice Shadows

Solstices mark the changing of seasons, occur twice a year, and feature the year’s shortest and longest daylight hours - depending on your hemisphere. These extremes in the length of day and night make solstice days more noticeable to many observers than the subtle equality of day and night experienced during equinoxes. Solstices were some of our earliest astronomical observations, celebrated throughout history via many summer and winter celebrations.

Work Continues on Highway 20 Project Through Ainsworth

Cart Hart, Highway Project Manager for NDOT, reported on Monday, June 6th that A&R Construction placed concrete at Osborne Street intersection and will continue to work east from Osborne Street toward Main Street. After the concrete has cured, A&R will switch city street access from Woodward Street to Osborne Street later in the week. Storm sewer installation continues from Cedar to Ash Street.
