Legislative Notes

Later this summer the Governor promised to call a special session of the legislature to reduce property taxes. I’m all for it. The fact this is an election year and we have 15 term-limited senators departing the body makes his decision a politically wise choice. Unfortunately, I don’t know if the political pressure from a looming election this Fall will be sufficient to find the 33 votes that will be needed.

Pillen still plugging for property tax relief, despite defeat of initial plan Let’s face it, Nebraska has high property taxes, the seventh highest in the country according to the Tax Foundation, which tracks such things. “Lots of land, not a lot of people,” has always been the catchphrase, which translates into a higher burden of property taxes.

Memorial Day Service Held at Ainsworth Cemetery in Remembrance of Fallen Heroes

A service was held at the South Cemetery in Ainsworth on Monday, May 27th, in remembrance and acknowledgement of Memorial Day and soldiers who gave their lives during their time in the armed forces. Judy Walters, the American Legion Post 79 Commander, gave the welcome to the audience in attendance.
