Heather Lutter returns as the head coach for the Ainsworth girls golf squad this season. This will mark Lutter's 12th year of coaching.

The North Central District Health Department would like to report that West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquitoes in Holt County near O’Neill. Residents should take precautions to protect themselves from mosquitoes.

The Ranch Bronc Riding Series Championship Finals was held n Monday, September 5th. The Year End Champion was Kayne Boswell of O’Neill and Reserve Champion was Corey Koenig of Spencer 1st Go Round: 1st - Kayne Boswell, 2nd - Nathan Flannery, 3rd - Cole Laible and 4th - Tucker Even.

Martin, Leach and Knoetzel Win Ainsworth Men’s League Golf

The final week of the Ainsworth Men’s League Golf wrapped up on Thursday, September 8th at the Ainsworth Golf Course with the team of Kevin Martin, Logan Leach and Brett Knoetzel taking top honors. The team of Martin, Leach and Knoetzel had been leading for a number of weeks and finished the season with a team total of 81 points.

Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area, renowned for its Sandhills location providing spectacular astronomical views, has been certified as an International Dark Sky Park. Merritt has hosted the annual Nebraska Star Party each summer for 29 years, when professional and amateur astronomers converge to take advantage of a sky free of light pollution.

Nebraska Game & Parks Commissioners Approve Changes to Wild Turkey Seasons for 2023

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved recommendations for 2023 wild turkey hunting seasons at its August 31 meeting at Fort Robinson State Park near Crawford. The changes to orders for the 2023 turkey season are: • Limit all hunters to two spring permits; during the meeting, commissioners amended the recommendation to allow nonresidents up to two permits.
