12 Tornadoes Confirmed in Nebraska on Windy Wednesday, December 15th

The National Weather Service confirmed 12 tornadoes touched down in Nebraska on Wednesday, December 15th. An extremely powerful and unusual storm system swept across the Midwest in the afternoon that day, following an unseasonably warm morning. Brown County was lucky, with wind speed and gusts that weren’t entirely unlikely for the region, with some rain, followed by freezing rain. The wind speed was around 35 and gusts around 60 mph. Some loose items blew away and the roads became slick as the rain froze, but most Christmas decorations were safe and there were no school closings. Much of the state was not so lucky - wind gusts of nearly 100 mph were confirmed in much of eastern Nebraska.

Thought for the week: “Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values.” -- Thomas S. Monson
