Work Begins on US-183 Between Bassett to Rose

Weather permitting, a roadway microsurfacing project began on Friday, September 3rd on US-183, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Roadway microsurfacing is a thin layer of asphalt slurry material spread to remove rutting and surface irregularities in asphalt pavements.

Construction to Begin for Merritt Reservoir Breakwater

A new breakwater planned at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area will protect a nearby boat launch and shoreline. The construction project is scheduled to begin this month as workers capitalize on the low water levels at the Sandhills irrigation reservoir.

Social Security Funds Projected to be Depleted by 2034

The Social Security Board of Trustees released its annual report on the long-term financial status of the Social Security Trust Funds. The combined asset reserves of the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and Disability Insurance (OASI and DI) Trust Funds are projected to become depleted in 2034, one year earlier than projected last year, with 78 percent of benefits payable at that time.
