The 2025 mountain lion hunting season in Nebraska ended January 19th after the final harvest limit was reached in the Pine Ridge Unit. One male and six females were harvested in the Pine Ridge Unit.

Every February 2nd since 1887, Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania has made his weather prediction. If it’s sunny and he sees his shadow, it’s said we’ll see six more weeks of winter. If it’s cloudy and he doesn’t see his shadow, it’s said to mean an early spring.

The Nebraska Legislature wrapped up bill introductions and began committee hearings in the third week of its 2025 session, including proposals to display the Ten Commandments in public schools, end tenure for state university faculty and eliminate online voter registration.

As we move into the second full week of the legislative session, I remain focused on addressing the unique challenges faced by rural Nebraskans and laying the groundwork for meaningful progress.
