Valentine U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Kami Ormesher has announced that agricultural producers can now enroll in the Farm Service Agency’s (FSA) Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs for the 2024 crop year. The deadline to complete enrollment and any election change is March 15, 2024.

Wait, what? Governor Jim Pillen has reversed his opposition to a federal summer grocery program that would aid around 150,000 children of low-income families. Pillen succumbed to a lot of outside pressure from a bipartisan group of state lawmakers, a bill introduced by one of them to request the aid and another state senator who made it his priority to ensure it would be debated in the remaining days of the legislative session.

Valentines Day was the deadline for Senators to designate their personal priority bill. A senator can introduce as many bills as they wish during the first ten days of the session. Our rules say the Speaker must put priority bills on the agenda. This assumes the Senator has managed to convince the chairman of the committee to hold an executive session and advance their bill to the floor for debate by the full legislature. Bills that do not advance are held by the committee and cannot be put on the agenda.

February 11th – February 17th, 2023 Sunday, February 11th Officer issued a citation for improper/defective lighting. Officer issued a citation for speeding 81 mph in a 65 mph zone.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will accept archery paddlefish permit applications March 1-14. The application period begins at 1:00 p.m.

Once again, the “Golfing Grannies” (Jennifer Martin, Wendy Wilkins, Ann Hoch and myself) came out swinging at six different golf courses in Arizona - Augusta Ranch, Scottsdale Silverado, Long Bow, Talking Sticks, Painted Mountain and Toka Sticks, giving us the opportunity to play 18 holes each day we were there.
