Darrel Steele, Sr. (center) was presented his 60-year pin from the Grand Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Nebraska. Steele became a member of Silver CordLodge#224inAinsworth on January 9, 1962 and was raised Master Mason on February 1, 1963. He was the Worshipful Master in 1968 and was very proficient in many of the degrees.

This spring has been tough on farmers wanting to get into the field. The 50 plus inches of snow this past winter took its time melting and farmers who are usually done by this time with field work are still busy preparing fields for planting. Gary Taylor was busy Sunday afternoon, April 16th with his strip-till machine preparing his fields for planting. Taylor said, 'I usually start planting about the third week in April, but with the uncertain weather we have been having, I'm holding off getting the planter out.' Taylor has rollers in front of his tractor that help flatten the cornstalks and keep them from ruining his tires. Strip-till is a conservation system that uses a minimum tillage. It combines the soil drying and warming benefits of conventional tillage with the soilprotecting advantages of no-till by disturbing only the portion of the soil that is to contain the seed row.

Brown County Community Foundation Fund announces the annual traditional grants that have been awarded for 2023. These grants go to projects that support, but are not limited to, the priorities identified in Brown County’s current Strategic Plan.

Speaker Joan Wells will present a program 'Cattle Trails & Songs of the West' on Monday, April 24th, at 2:00 p.m., at the Sandhills Care Center and again on Tuesday, April 25th, at 12:30 p.m., at the Ainsworth Senior Center.

The Ainsworth City Council met on April 11th for its regular meeting and one of the first items discussed by the Council was the Law Enforcement agreement with Brown County. Mayor Joel Klammer started the Law Enforcement agreement discussion by saying, “I recommend not taking any action today on the Law Enforcement agreement with the county.” “Comments made at the last Commissioner’s meeting were not accurate,” said Mayor Klammer.

The Ainsworth Track Teams were in Bassett for the North Central Invitational Track Meet on April 3rd. The track meet was to be held on April 4th, but was moved up a day to predicted inclement weather. The weather for the track meet was cool and windy.
