“School of Fish” Held in Ainsworth for Young Fishermen

The “School of Fish” was held on March 22nd at the Elks Lodge in Ainsworth for young people ages 9 to 14. Jim Klages of Chamberlain, SD taught the youngsters about lakes, the fish that live in them along with some great ways to catch them.

Ainsworth Lions Club March Meeting

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Ainsworth Lions Club was held on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Canyon Creek at 12:00 noon. Lions Club President Beatty called the meeting to order. Roll was taken, with 12 members present. Lion Beatty led the Pledge of Allegiance, with Lion Rice giving the prayer.

CSC Announces Dean’s List

Chadron State College has announced that 341 students met requirements for the Dean’s List for Fall 2021 by earning at least a 3.5 grade point average. To qualify, students must have completed at least 45 credit hours, be enrolled in 12 credit hours of coursework, be seeking their first bachelor’s degree, and have no incomplete grades during the semester.

Since ancient times, marijuana has been used for medicinal and recreational purposes in many cultures. In the United States, it became illegal during prohibition, like alcohol. Later, under the Controlled Substances Act in the 1970’s, the federal government classified marijuana a Schedule 1 drug. This classification includes heroin, LSD, and ecstasy, all deemed to have no safe, effective medical use and a high potential for abuse.

1897: 125 Years Ago Managers of the beet sugar factory in Neligh sent information that they are “anxious for the farmers of this vicinity to contract with them to raise beets at $4 (four dollars) per ton.” The freight was not to cost more than $1.00 per ton. “We [the Star-Journal] say this is the time for the farmers of Brown County to make the trial.
