Ainsworth Community Schools Begins Classes on Thursday, August 13

Ainsworth Community Schools will open its doors to students for the 2026-27 school year on Thursday, August 13. The school has a host of new employees beginning this year.
Ainsworth Reclaims Border Cup

Ainsworth recaptured the Border Cup Saturday at the Ainsworth Golf Course, winning the annual match play event between members of the Ainsworth Golf Course and Bassett Country Club by a score of 15-1/2 to 9-1/2.

The rumble of motorcycles and the spirit of generosity filled the roads of north central Nebraska on Saturday as the Celtic Riders hosted their annual Miles That Matter Poker Run, raising funds to help Ainsworth youngster Kolter Mizner and his family.
Century Lumber Held Summer Drawings

Century Lumber Center of Ainsworth held two drawings with entries taking place the last week of June and ending on Independence Day weekend. One drawing celebrated America’s 250th birthday.

Hackberry Lake to be Chemically Renovated Monday, August 9th

Hackberry Lake on the Valentine National Wildlife Refuge will be chemically renovated the week of August 9th as part of the ongoing Aquatic Habitat Project on the refuge. The rotenone treatment is aimed to eliminate common carp, an undesirable species detrimental to aquatic habitat, water quality and sport fish populations.

The Summer Triangle may be the most famous seasonal star pattern, but during early August evenings another geometrically-themed asterism rises: the Great Square of Pegasus. This asterism’s name is a bit misleading: while three of its stars - Scheat, Markab, and Algenib - are indeed found in the constellation of the winged horse Pegasus, its fourth star, Alpheratz, is the brightest star in the constellation Andromeda!
