The Two Sides of Hamanity in Medicine

Merriam-Webster defines humanity as “compassionate, sympathetic, or generous behavior or disposition.” It is also defined as “the quality or condition of being human.” The first definition is what people want in a health care provider. We all want to be taken care of by a caregiver who is compassionate, kind, sympathetic, and generous with their time and knowledge. Health care providers spend countless hours taking care of patients. In order to do this, at times we ignore our own needs for rest, sleep, and food. We recite mantras of “first do no harm” and “the patient comes first.” Many of us strive for this vision of the “perfect” provider or to be a “health care hero” as we were called during the pandemic.

Academic All-State Awards for Ainsworth Students

The Nebraska School Activities Association and the Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association recognize students who have been nominated by their schools, for their individual academic excellence, leadership, and significant contributions in their NSAA activity. NSAA member schools may nominate two students for each NSAA-sponsored activity. To be considered for this award, a student must be a varsity player or organizational leader who has played a significant role on the team or in the organizational activity. Honorees must attain at least a 93% cumulative grade point average on a 100% scale or a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.

Critical Cold Considerations For Cattle

Livestock performance and survival is affected by wind and temperature. When this occurs, is determined by the lower critical temperature (LCT), or the threshold at which point animals need to start using energy to maintain body heat. A cow with a body condition score of 5 with a dry coat will have a lower critical temperature of 19°F. When this happens, feed intake will need to increase to maintain a suitable body temperature and prevent a drop in body condition in the long run. This stress over time can erode animal condition and have severe impacts when it comes to breed back next year.
