Perfect weather greeted Trick or Treaters on Halloween evening, Monday, October 31st. At 7:30 p.m., the temperature was still showing 62˚ in Ainsworth. There was a great turnout for the Trick or Treaters as they participated downtown on Main Street and at the Fire Hall. As the treats were handed out, the Ainsworth Star-Journal noted approximately 315 Trick or Treaters stopped by their spot in the Ainsworth Fire Hall. Lots of fun for the little ones as they went from the various spots providing treats.

The person I am writing about is Kenneth Heur. He was my great-grandpa on my dad’s side of the family. He started the Navy at Pearl Harbor in 1950 and quit in 1953. Thank you, Grandpa Heur, for serving in the Navy.

I can be a better citizen as an American. I can show good citizenship by being kind to ALL citizens. Another way is saying the Pledge of Allegiance or the National Anthem because we need to be respectful to the veterans who serve our country. To be safe you should follow the rules and the laws. Why do we need to do these things? We all need to be respectful, responsible and safe. That’s how I can be a better citizen.

I am going to tell you about freedom. Freedom means all people are equal. Freedom means you can follow your dreams. Freedom means you can trap, shoot and fish. Overall that is what freedom means to me.

If I could choose to serve our country, I would like to be in the Marine Corps. I think it would be fun to be in the Marine Corps because you would get to go to a lot of places. You would also get to do a few fun things, but there would be some things that are not very fun also. Marines are responsible for delivering task forces on land, at sea, and in the air. Marines work closely with the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Those are the reasons I would want to be in the Marine Corps!

Deer hunters are reminded to locate their nearest in-person check stations prior to hunting during the nine-day firearm season this year. All deer harvested during the November 12-20 season must be accompanied by the hunter and taken to a check station no later than 1:00 p.m.
