Legislative Notes

The period of time between the election (8 November) and the beginning of the next legislative session (4 January) is when a majority of the “bill ideas” are turned into a bill ready to introduce. The first ten legislative days are the only time bills can be introduced in a new legislative session. The schedule says the last day to do this is going to be the 18th of January.

Germ Theory, Antibiotics and Our 21st Century Challenge

As a lover of the history of science and medicine, one of my favorite topics to read and learn about is the discovery of germ theory. Up until the mid to late 1800’s, diseases had numerous other theories, and the theory of miasma – meaning “bad air” – dominated as an explanation for cholera, plague, and other infectious outbreaks.

Brown County Commissioners to Meet The Brown County Commissioners will meet as a Board of Equalization on Tuesday, November 1st at 5:00 p.m., and as the Board of Commissioners at 5:15 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Room in the Courthouse.

Kat’s Korner

The Bulldog football team continues in the Class D2 playoffs as they are still undefeated 9-0. If you haven’t seen them play, try to make it out to East City Park. They will be in the second round playoff game this Friday, October 28th beginning at 5:00 p.m. Lets pack the stands and let them know we are behind them.

Sheriff’s Report

October 16 - 22, 2022 Sunday, October 16th During a traffic stop on Highway 20, near mile marker 247, a South Dakota driver was issued a citation for possession of an open alcohol container. A Nebraska driver was issued a citation for failure to report an accident, no valid registration or insurance and driving under suspension.

Long Pine Chamber of Commerce Host Craft and Vendor Fair

Holiday craft and vendor fairs have started in the area with the Long Pine Chamber of Commerce hosting its annual event on Saturday, October 22nd at The Palace in Long Pine. There were many booths to shop from including wooden items, Scentsy, jewelry, food and drink, clothing, crocheted items and decorative tumblers to name a few items.
