Jess Swan shot a three-under 33 to take top individual honors during Ainsworth Men’s Golf League on September 1st. Kyle Jackman carded a one-under 35 with a host of golfers shooting even par 36s.

The Ainsworth Cross Country Team hosted the annual Ainsworth Cross Country Invitational on September 1st at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course. The meet, originally scheduled for 4:00 p.m., was moved to 10:00 a.m.

The Ainsworth American Legion Auxiliary held their regular monthly meeting August 23, 2022 following the annual carry-in picnic. Chaplain Ellen read an opening prayer.

Olivia Beel, of Johnstown, Nebraska represented the BKR counties at the Nebraska State Fair by exhibiting two market gilts. Olivia Beel received a blue ribbon in Senior Swine Showmanship. She also received blue ribbons for her market gilts “Oreo” (shown in the picture) in Class 17 and “Pinky” in Class 15. One of Olivia’s favorite memories of Nebraska State Fair 2022 is the opportunity to share her passion for pigs with those who stop by the swine barn while visiting the fair. This year, she got to visit with a family from Brazil. The families two young children very so happy to learn so much about swine and have such a great experience with animals at the state fair.

Nebraska’s grasslands lost more than 419,000 tons of forage production in 2019 due to woody encroachment by species like eastern redcedars. The same year, 19 out of 25 counties in the Sandhills were on a trajectory of decreasing forage production due woody encroachment.
