Carol Woods enjoyed the beautiful weekend. On Friday morning there were white patches of frost on the lawn grass. Some of the flowers survived. Carol received .35 of rain this past week. Her brother, Jim, of Ceresco, had nice weather over the weekend and could do some outside jobs.

The October 23-24 statewide youth pheasant, quail, and partridge season for hunters ages 15 and younger provides an excellent opportunity to mentor new hunters. “Each fall, the youth season provides a great opportunity to get young family members and friends out hunting in a more controlled environment,” said John Laux, upland game program manager for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

Ainsworth High School qualified both the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams for the Class D State Competition to be held on Friday, October 22nd in Kearney, NE. Team members competing will be: Class D3 District Championship Girls Team (Front Row - Left to Right): Preselyn Goochey, Emma Kennedy, Alyssa Erthum, Katherine Kerrigan, Maren Arens and Alternate Kylie Higbee; Class D3 District Runner Up Boys Team (Back Row - Left to Right): Alternate Logan Schroedl, Thomas Ortner, Trey Appelt, Ben Flynn, Ty Schlueter and Corbin Swanson.

The Ainsworth American Legion Post #79 recently installed a new handicap accessible ramp leading into their building. The ramp will allow aging Legion members an easier way into the building without having to navigate the steps.

The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) announced the 2021-2022 Believers & Achievers on October 5th. Alyssa Erthum, a senior at Ainsworth High School was chosen as one of 48 Nebraska high school seniors to be honored as Believers & Achievers. From those 48 finalists, eight will receive $500.00 scholarships.

The number of officials (referees, umpires, line judges, etc.) in the NSAA is down 20% from last year. Maintaining officials has always been a challenge for the NSAA – in part due to unsportsmanlike behavior by spectators. This year, the pandemic has made the recruitment and retainment of officials even more difficult. This problem is not unique to the state of Nebraska; it is affecting sports nationwide.
