The Sandhills Cattle Association’s (SCA) Annual Educational, Performance and Carcass Contest has reached its 40th year! With this impressive milestone, there is an exciting new element to the contest. Producers can now donate a calf to the Association’s new ‘Steers for Students’ program and support the Association and their local schools at the same time!

International Observe the Moon Night was on October 16th this year– but you can observe the Moon whenever it’s up, day or night! While binoculars and telescopes certainly reveal incredible details of our neighbor’s surface, bringing out dark seas, bright craters, and numerous odd fissures and cracks, these tools are not the only way to observe details about our Moon. There are more ways to observe the Moon than you might expect, just using common household materials.

October 14, 2021 To the Editor, Ainsworth Star-Journal, (And to anyone who thinks that flying the Confederate battle flag is an appropriate protest against the United States government.) One of my great-great-grandfathers on my father’s side, John Ross, moved his family to Manhattan in the territory of Kansas to try to see Kansas brought into the Union as a free state. Another great-great-grandfather, Daniel Drake, a middle-aged widower with a new wife and six living children, enlisted as a private in the artillery on the Union side and was killed.
