    Ainsworth Men’s Golf League

    Cam Palmer and Brett Konetzel shot even par rounds of 36 during Men’s League Golf on Thursday, August 3rd at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course. Logan Leach followed with a 1-over round of 37.

    Ainsworth Women’s Golf League

    Two teams are vying for the top spot with just one week left in Women’s Golf League at the Ainsworth Golf Course. The first place team of Kathy Worrell, Stephanie Kinzie and Julie Micheel have a team score of 89 points after week 11 of Women’s League Golf on August 2nd.

    Commissioners Approve Fee Increase for State Park Entry Permits

    The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved fee increases for its state park entry permits at its meeting August 4th in Valentine. The fee for the annual permit for Nebraska-licensed vehicles will increase from $30.00 to $35.00 and a temporary (daily) permit from $6.00 to $7.00 beginning Jan.

    Ainsworth Volleyball Team Earns USMC/AVCA Academic Award

    The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced the Ainsworth Volleyball Team has earned the USMC/AVCA Academic Award For the sixth year in a row. Senior team members accepting the award are (left to right) Karli Kral, Cheyan Temple, Kendyl Delimont and Jocelyn Good. Not pictured, Breanna Fernau. USMC/AVCA reported that 1,343 collegiate and high school volleyball teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season. This marks an all-time record number of programs honored for their academic achievements. The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.

    Results of Hodge Memorial Horseshoe Tournament

    The Al Hodge Memorial Horseshoe Tournament was held Sunday, July 30th in Ainsworth. The following results were provided (Name, City (All Nebraska Pitchers), Win/Loss and Ringer %: 1. Malinda Hodge, Ainsworth, 6-0, 35%; 2. Mike Thomsen, North Platte, 5-1, 27.92%; 3. Jim Sybrant, Bassett, 4-2, 29.17%; 4. Doug Whipple, Fordyce, 3-3, 15.83%; 5. Charles Beeson, Waverly, 2-4, 15.83%; 6. Rex Robison, Columbus, 1-5, 2.92%; and 7. Bonnie Whipple, Fordyce, 0-6, 1.25%.

    Drug Prices

    High costs and shortages of pharmaceuticals are serious, ongoing issues. Drug prices in the US are among the highest in the world. A recent survey by the Rand Corporation looked at drug prices in 32 developed countries. US prices were the highest in the group and were more than twice the average of prices in other countries. What is especially troubling is that the products sold in many of these countries are the same drugs produced by the same manufacturers as those sold in the US at much higher prices.
