Ainsworth Senior Center Celebrates 45 Years

Forty-five years ago on August 2, 1981, the Ainsworth Senior Center held an open house to celebrate their new building. Senior Center officers in 1981 were Dorothy Walton, Bill Gudgel, Dwight Moody, Burdetta Jansen and George Brede.

A Friday night fire destroyed a building in Ainsworth. According to Ainsworth Assistant Fire Chief Devin Painter, at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Ainsworth Community Schools Begins Classes on Thursday, August 13

Ainsworth Community Schools will open its doors to students for the 2026-27 school year on Thursday, August 13. The school has a host of new employees beginning this year.
Ainsworth Reclaims Border Cup

Ainsworth recaptured the Border Cup Saturday at the Ainsworth Golf Course, winning the annual match play event between members of the Ainsworth Golf Course and Bassett Country Club by a score of 15-1/2 to 9-1/2.

After receiving only 16 hundredths of an inch of moisture from January 1 to April 1, north central Nebraska has received some welcomed rain. Saturday evening, May 7th Ainsworth had nearly an inch and a half of moisture.

Brown County Commissioners Table Resolution Regarding Sandhills Care Center

At the regular meeting of the Brown County Commissioners on May 3rd, the Commissioners voted to table a resolution to modify the Interlocal Agreement regarding the Ainsworth/Brown County Care Center to create a separate legal entity.

Removal of Highway 20 South Lane Has Begun; Alternating Street Intersections Closed

A&R Construction has begun saw-cutting the roadway and intersections in order to remove the existing surface of the south side of Highway 20 (normally the lane for traffic heading east). Head-to-head traffic continues on the center and north lanes. Traffic will remain on the north side of Highway 20 through mid-summer, according to NDOT Highway Project Manager Carl Hart.
