The Ainsworth Boys and Girls Middle School competed in the O’Neill Junior High Invitational Track Meet on April 15th in O’Neill. The Ainsworth Boys Middle School took first place with 82 points, just edging out a Boyd County team that scored 80 points.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will consider staff recommendations for 2024 deer, antelope and elk hunting seasons when it meets April 25th at Ponca State Park. A public hearing is scheduled for proposed amendments to Commission orders pertaining to season dates, bag limits, permit quantities and areas open for deer, antelope and elk hunting.

Good news for foragers: The morel mushroom picking season is beginning. Some morels now are being found along eastern Nebraska’s river bottoms.

Nebraska’s net farm income is projected to fall to $6 billion in 2024 and average $6.3 billion per year across the next decade, according to a new report from the Rural and Farm Finance Policy Analysis Center (RaFF) at the University of Missouri, produced in conjunction with the Center for Agricultural Profitability at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Ainsworth Community Schools Music Department hosted the District Music Contest on Friday, April 20th. Band instructor Erin Rathe released the following ratings the Ainsworth band students received: Large Group - Ainsworth Band RECEIVED I,I,I, A Superior Rating from all 3 judges; Trumpet Trio - Colby Beegle, Abbi Paulson, Miranda Phares.

The 2nd Session of the 108th Legislature adjourned “Sine Die” (‘Sine Die’ is a Latin phrase meaning without any future date being designated). In his speech yesterday, Governor Pillen made it clear that this is probably not my final session in the Nebraska Legislature. The Governor said he plans to call a special session to address the property tax issue. I supported Senator Linehan’s LB 388 brought on behalf of the Governor. Depending on the school district it would have lowered property taxes by 25-50%. The bill did not have the votes and it was passed over during debate on the floor.
