Ainsworth FSA Reminds Producers of January 31 Deadline to Apply for Drought Disaster Resources

Ainsworth U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Acting Executive Director Regina Beck reminds livestock producers of program resources to assist those impacted by 2021 drought conditions. The deadline to apply and complete paperwork for the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) and the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees and Farm-raised Fish Program (ELAP) is January 31, 2022.

Nebraska Corn Fertilizer Price Concerns Elevated Following Release of New Report

Nebraska Corn Board (NCB) and Nebraska Corn Growers Association (NeCGA) – collectively known as “Nebraska Corn” – are crying foul after researchers at Texas A&M University released an economic analysis suggesting pending tariffs on nitrogen fertilizers will create shortages resulting in increased prices for farmers.

2021 Year-In-Review - April

April 2021 As the Ainsworth Star-Journal announced during the first week of April 2021, Deb Weiss of Ainsworth was selected to become a member of the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) Board of Counselors.The UNMC Chancellor’s Board of Counselors is a statewide citizen advisory group charged with two major responsibilities. Members serve as “ambassadors” for UNMC, and they seek advice and counsel from members.

Alfalfa Fertility Management

Successful alfalfa production begins with proper decisions regarding cultivar selection; weeds/ insects and diseases control; water management; and a good fertility program. Although some growers may still use 3 tons per acre as their alfalfa yield goal, many producers (especially irrigators) may now be using 6 or 9 tons per acre for their target yield goals.
